In 1969, two Bell Model 47 Helicopters were purchased, and six pilots were assigned to the Section. Since then, the Section has grown to over thirty trooper pilots and full-time mechanics, using seven helicopters and two airplanes statewide. The Aviation Section of the Pennsylvania State Police provides aerial support to all federal, state and local law enforcement agencies within the Commonwealth, as well as assisting in other non-emergency situations, including major civic and sporting events. In addition to general air patrol work, the Department receives hundreds of requests for assistance annually from the 1,200 sworn law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth's sixty-seven counties. Bell H-13 Sioux Originally designed as a single engine, light helicopter for use by civilians, the Bell H-13 Sioux first flew on December 8, 1945 as the Bell 47 prototype. Later re-designated H-13 by the United States Army Air Forces, the improved aircraft was used as an observation and basic training helicopter. The design is characterized by a full bubble canopy, skid landing gear and welded-tube tail boom. It has two high-level mounted saddle fuel tanks and a two bladed single rotor. The H-13 was immortalized by the long-running television show M.A.S.H., where it was portrayed in its role as a medevac aircraft. First Response die-cast airplanes feature: Die-cast metal construction with some plastic components. Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details. Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals. Many limited editions certificate of authenticity.
