Description: Very good vintage condition first edition for Smith-Corona 1950's model of their "Portable Electric Typewriter".Looks are similar to the manual type but with a belt driven motor with added electricity trying to innovate us to better ways for the finger weary users of the time.Case was grundgy in first pics, did some scrubbing and revealed a soft pastel yellow hard case with aluminum edging and stainless steel hinges, front closure and 4 dot feet. Contrast colored black, firm, thick, handle made of the 50's molded plastic used for many things in that era.On and Off (red) switch tested and still working.Tested and typed some random letters to show it is in working shape. On, you can hear the belt rotating and I don't know if you should hear it but when I turned the other knob opposite the On/Off spindle with numbers, seemed to make less noise as I adjusted it. I don't know what this turn spindle does. The interior of the typewriter has dust and probably needs a cleaning and am selling it in the exact condition that it is in. No warranties or guarantees. I have tested it and it does power on and off with the proper switch and did type letters that I pressed with space bar working properly and return bar working as well as paper release, space up bar still functioning with that special sound like gears when you press it forward to advance the paper. The ribbon spools are still there and the ribbon seems to be an all black one. There are indications on the typewriter for a multi-colored ribbon with color choices.Keys are all there and in very good condition as the machine was protected by this hard plastic case. The advertisements that I have displayed are from a person who had the manual to this typewriter and are NOT included as I was just using them to confirm the era it was introduced to give it's inaugural promotional debut state. This manual would be a nice addition to this one, up for sale on this site as it is the same model as one of the pictures. The ad tastes "The World's First Electric Portable". It's heavy..... but portable, and they made the case to endure whatever portable mishaps you might have while carrying it, besides an arm workout. There is an indentation on one of the corners, as pict..One small screw is missing from the bottom but not critical and could be easily replaced. (Circled in yellow in a pic.)Made in the USA with serial number. (see pics)This typewriter is being sold "as is", "as pictured" in working condition, that means it powers on and off and types. Ribbon replacement and belt replacement is not part of the working condition of this typewriter as those items need periodic replacement for this item to work at it's best capabilities. Both are there and working now.It is for pick-up only in the Disneyland, Orange County, CA 92843, area and after you purchase, we can plug it in and give it a go, so you know it is in "working" condition. Thanks for your interest in the "Worlds First Portable Electric Typewriter" according to Smith-Corona, created in the 50's when everyone used a typewriter for formal writings, and professional appeal. A lovely green color with another hue of green as the space bar which does have some spotting on it that I noticed, again, see pics. Please review all the information given and photos taken to give you the best representation of my item up for sale and hopefully will make you comfortable in making a purchase. I am listing it with a "PICK UP ONLY", as shipping takes a big chunk out of the equation. Thanks and be safe out there.
