Kingsley was a priest for the Church of England and a friend of Darwin. It is beautifully illustrated by the beloved and renowned Jessie Willcox Smith. She was prominent during the Golden Age of American Publications. There are twelve beautiful full page color plates and half-tone vignettes throughout. Green cloth with applied illustration on paper. Quite a large book, measuring almost a foot. 10 1/4” by 8” by 1 1/2”. Heavy. 362 Pages. Large quarto. Original binding. Book is 108 years old. A nice good copy without dust jacket. Note: There is some soiling on the boards. Some discoloration on some of the illustration due to age. One illustration is close to falling out but still in. One illustration has a one inch tear at the bottom. Front hinge very slightly loose. Please refer to photos as they are part of this description.
