Description: Outside air kits are used to bring fresh air from outside into the firebox so that combustion oxygen isn't removed from the homes atmosphere. This item is used in the construction of a new fireplace. while it is possible to use for existing fireplaces, it would require a significant amount of removal of the firebox floor. Air enters from the outside wall. You will need a brick vent for masonry walls, or a regular screen or louver vent for a vinyl wall. The air outlet is in the firebox, in place of the ash clean out. A Louvered ash door is then used to let air in while you are using the fireplace. There is a damper control inside of the Outside Air Kit, in order to regulate the correct amount of oxygen needed for the fire size desired. For new home construction, it is especially important to add an outside air kit for fireplaces because new homes are built to be airtight structures.
