Description: Splendid hand carved painted and gilded wood statue of buddha stands about 14 1/2" tall, on a triangular base measuring app. 11" x 8"x 4", and originating in Mandalay, Burma. Dating to circa 1850, the seated figure is finished in black paint with gold leaf, and is richly decorated with tiny colored glass "jewels". Impressive carving is in good, as found estate condition, with some age cracks where wood elements have been joined, wear to the gold leaf finish, and several of the glass "jewels" are missing.
