Boel", and framed - approx 12x16 inches 20 x 15 inches with frame This is an excellent English School oil dating from the Victorian period. The cottage scene depicts a charming view of a rural stone cottage. To the foreground a small pond is surrounded by overgrown grasses. Beyond stands the stone buildings of the cottage surrounded by dense trees and bushes. The old derelict building has lost some roof tiles covered with ivy, the dovecote standing beyond. A charming painting beautifully detailed beneath a blue clouded sky.The work is signed. Artist Biography: John Henry Boel - 1880-1920, fl 1889-1910John Henry Boel was a British Landscape Painter. He painted in oils and less frequently in watercolour. Boel concentrated mainly on landscapes, figures and coastal scenes. His landscapes often depicted the Scottish highlands.John Henry Boel was a very popular artist during his time. He was a prolific artist and his work is often seen on the market. Framing: Later plain moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt.The oil is mounted on a stretcher. Condition: The painting has had some damage and restoration work. There have been a number of small holes which have been filled, generally around the center of the painting. The tree to the right of the stone outbuilding has been restored and there are two small areas of damage to the center sky and right hand tree (see photos). The sky area has discolored with age but the painting is still a fabulous antique piece of art full of character. The frame has a few chips and abrasions...PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BUY.
