Description: NOTE: If you wish for a darker, uniform deep oil finish, a matte-finished leather is required, and it will take longer for the conditioner to soak in. Matte-finished slings are USUALLY UNMARKED, whether with brass or blackened steel. I am out out of the unmarked black hooked. ALL of these will be somewhat blotchy, albeit where in what ways depends upon the individual hide. Please bear this in mind. These are custom merchandise, and not returnable once modified. Some CANNOT be uniformly dark, nor can standard versions of the MILSCO units. The fatiguing looks better if it is a little uneven/blotchy. The entire idea with these is to NOT have uniform tones. If you need uniform dark tones, it is advisable to order one of the dyed slings, which I have available in separate auctions. These are brand new, unused but fatigued/conditioned replica slings of the M1907 pattern. That is, I make them blotchy, to look a little "worn in". Note: no two of these will actually be identical. The ability to soak up the conditioner will vary with a particular hide, and the erratic "blotchiness" of the tones is what makes them look "used". THE SINGER CO. 1942 absorbable IS NOW SOLD OUT. I HAVE TOTALLY UNMARKED VERSIONS OF THE SELFSAME SLING AVAILABLE. Rock Island (RIA) 1941 with black fittings and CS 1917 (brass metal parts, WWI) will be in stock effective 3-23 or so. "CS" is/was CHICAGO SADDLERY. If you don't specify a marking, or even a lack thereof, specify a hook material. If neither is chosen, I'll send what finds itself in my hand first. The dyed with black hooks MILSCO 1942, unmarked black fitted unit (heavier leather, by the way!!), and brass fitted MILSCO 1942 are in stock in fine numbers, as are any other permutations shown/described in this auction. If you need a special marking, it is sometimes prudent to check before bidding, albeit shortages are very rare. ONE SLING PER AUCTION, and YOU CHOOSE brass hooks or blackened steel. If you do not choose WITH YOUR ORDER, I will generally send brass hooked, as they saw service for about fifty years after the "War to End all Wars". These are study, 11-12 ounce leather, which I treat with neatsfoot and olive oil, various non-sugar beverages, touches of leather dye and paint, to make them look "used" visually. The neatsfoot will aid their suppleness and longevity and the blotch quality--the neatsfoot will tend to even out and spread with time!!--will tend to make them look older. NONE OF THE RIFLES/SOLDIERS/SETS/DOGS SHOWN HERE ARE INCLUDED, THIS IS FOR ONE SLING ONLY. Other item are for rigging and demonstration/illustration purposes. I do NOT scratch up the metal or much abrade the leather, nor do I any more attempt to use fake corrosion on the metal fittings. You can do that if you wish. Takes a few days to concoct one of these, and I do them as creatively as I can. No returns at all once modified!! The photos depict typical specimens. For now, markings are either Kerr Co. 1917 (WWI) or sturdy, unmarked and various 1942 (WW2 blackened steel fittings). Depending upon orders, may have to use MILSCO 1942 ( brass or black fittings) or Rock Island Arsenal 1918 (brass fittings). If it's important, check with me BEFOREHAND. You choose hook/fitting material.
