Here we offer the first retail edition of the second book in the deeply moving and insightful classic children's "Little House on the Prairie" series: Farmer Boy, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, with illustrations by Helen Sewell, published by Harper & Brothers, New York. The book was originally published in 1933, and all subsequent printings of the first edition bore that same date, but they were actually printed in the 1940's and 1950's. This is a particularly early stated 12th "Edition", the word here in the British style used to indicate print run. It is a first edition, 12th print, in modern parlance, and the (smudged) "I-T" code indicates a September, 1944 printing, many years before the book went to a second edition with a different illustrator and the publisher became "Harper and Row". The book comes wrapped in a facsimile dust jacket of the highest quality you can only get here, remastered from the first edition jacket and printed on coated heavyweight bond. The polymer coating on the paper ensures the brightest colors and sharpest prints, as the ink sits atop the paper rather than being absorbed into the fibers. Boards are soiled and lightly edgeworn, with a pen mark at the top edge (please see pics). Intact endpapers are clean, with an erased inscription. There are repairs of edge tears with binder's tissue at pages 140, 141, and 143. Binding is very tight and square; text and illustrations are very bright and crisp. The book measures approximately 8.5 x 7-inches.
