Fargesia Scabrida Bamboo

Description: The Fargesia Scabrida is a rare clumping bamboo from rainforests at the 8800 foot elevation in Sichuan, China. It was first discovered in the 1970’s but not collected until 1997. Its new culms are purple and blue with orange sheathing. With age the culms will change to olive green. It is a very colorful bamboo, especially during the growing season. Its dark green foliage is long and narrow. The Scabrida is a relatively fast growing bamboo. It is not uncommon to see 1′-3′ per year growth on young plants like the ones being offered here. High heat mixed with high humidity would probably be fatal for the Fargesia, so this might not be a plant for those in the southeast states.
