Description: For sale is a RARE! Antique 18TH Century blacksmith Hand Wrought Iron fireplace hearth salamander with EXTRA FANCY whitesmith file work decorated long handle and great rattail hook end, possibly of a Pennsylvanian Dutch origin. The decorative patterns on the handle are some of the most unusual that I've seen. A salamander is a less common colonial period hearth tool that allows the cook to toast small Morsel of food to achieve a crispy texture. This particular one has a highly decorative and very refined engraved patterns and a delicate looking rattail hook. Very primitive old look! It measures approximately 15” long and the round head is nearly 3” wide. It has no rust and is straight when looked from the sideline. Beautiful blacksmith hand formed curved tail allows easy hanging. Age appropriate surface wears and imperfections are to be expected. Please check all photos for detailed condition before committing to buy. Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings. I gladly combine shipping whenever practical.
