Description: Almost everyone has heard of the Dionne quintuplets: Cecile, Emile, Marie, Yvonne & Annette, who were the first quintuplets known to have survived a live birth and whom all lived at least until adulthood. What many people do not know, however, is that their guardianship and custody was signed over to "the crown" i.e., the Canadian government, at a mere four months of age. They are also famous for being the Canadian catalyst in Ontario for the emergence of the Dionne Quintuplets Guardianship Act in 1935, which gave the Ontario government legal guardianship over their welfare until they turned 18 in 1952. The five girls were slated by the Canadian courts to remain under the guardianship of this panel: the birthing doctor Dr. Allan Dafoe, Joseph Valin, and the Minister of Welfare David Croll. Oliva Dionne was listed as a member of that panel but records state he rarely participated. Whether this was in their best interest or not remains to be seen, as the Ontario provincial government -- and those around them --proceeded to have somewhat of a license to make a profit off these youngsters by making them a significant tourist attraction. This entire situation appears to have been the best in definitions for irony: the rationale given for taking these babies from their biological parents was stated to "protect them from being exploited by their parents," Oliva and Elzire Dionne, after the father Oliva had succumbed to pressure from Chicago, USA, to present them in a promotion for Chicago, USA, right after their birth. Should you choose to read some interesting history, read about these impressive babies and what they survived. There is theory thata sixth fetus was miscarried. As of 2024, it appears that Annette and Cecile are still living at the age of 90. The others' lifespans were as follows: Emile passed early in life in 1954 at age 20;Marie in 1970 at age 35; and Yvonne in 2001 at age 67. Hence, here is your chance to own one of the few original framed hand-colored photographs of these quintuplets sitting with their older sister Pauline, who was only one year older. Furthermore, the family had FIVE older children than the quintuplets who all lived to adulthood. This heavy and sturdy framed print is obviously old as evidenced by the backing that has been brad-ed on. Seller has decided to not add another brad in the wide area in order to protect the integrity of the item. See photos. It is equipped with a heavy-duty hanging wire as shown in pictures. The genuine wood is a medium finish. The measurements of the print are 15" wide by 9" tall. The print itself is approximately 11.5 inches by 6 inches. The photograph is almost perfect with only two very slight damp spots that actually look like they are the wall in the picture. UPC 001374
