Basically what causes this error has to do with not emptying all planchets during copper over zinc plating. Remaining planchets somewhat dissolve in the plating solution creating brass plating on several future planchets, which then are struck as if they were normal cents. Explains why some brass-plated copper over zinc planchet strike cents exhibit minor rim break portions that appear slightly dissolved or eaten away or even some that only have the brass plating on one side or a portion of the coin -- this often shows up on genuine error cents of this variety, but not on the fakes.
