Description: This exceptional vintage Japanese kimono is an outstanding collector’s piece, showing several of the techniques used to make the finest garments. Hand-drawn yuzen-dyed kimonos were expensive and highly regarded. These items have not survived in large numbers. The design features aqua blue dye applied by hand to vary the intensity and sometimes creating a negative or reverse image effect. This is a difficult skill to master and these images are expertly painted. Pink dye is used for some flowers. There are extensive but delicate hand painted gold accents. Some blue flowers are embroidered. The heavy jacquard silk fabric was woven on a loom that created a beautiful rippling water pattern. Lined with white silk. Everything appears to be hand sewn. Measurements: end sleeve to end sleeve: 52 inches; length down center back: 61 inches This is in very good condition with only minor issues. No fiber deterioration, worn areas, or holes. There are a few tiny spots but no stains or discoloration. Kimono has not been cleaned but was well stored so no “off” odors. I have will be listing a variety of antique and vintage Japanese textiles from the same estate so please check my other listings.
