Description: Estate FindKarpen of California Pair California ManorEnd Tables / Night Stands Robert Dorr, Jr., Designer We offer a pair of three drawer nightstands or end tables by Karpen of California from the California Manor series of furniture designed by the California architect Robert Dorr, Jr.In 1947, Robert Dorr, Jr. built his Pueblo Revival style home at 21015 W Mulholland Dr. at the end of Rosario Road in Los Angeles.Known as the “Sky House”, the residence was arranged in five cubic volumes like a capital “H” with one large central volume with the other four attached to each of its corners. Dorr designed the furniture, dishes, and other household furnishings.In 1947, Maynard L. Parker photographed the interiors for the June 1947 edition of House Beautiful magazine. The photographs are now housed at The Huntington Library, San Marino, California.In the 1980s, a doctor from San Francisco acquired several pieces of furniture from the Dorr home which eventually traveled to Texas in the early 2000s.From the doctor, we acquired several pieces of furniture from the Robert Dorr collection including the pair of night stands. In the Maynard L. Parker photographs, the square paneled cabinet, the pair of benches at the foot of the bed, the diagonal door cabinet and the two tier end table under the red shaded lamp can be seen. The two tiered end table and the pair of nightstands remain available.The pair of night stands are oak with a limed oak finish and feature three drawers with round brass pulls.Each end table measures 18” in width and 21” in depth with a height of 32”.The pair of Karpen of California nightstands / end tables from the Robert Dorr residence exhibit minor age appropriate wear and are presented in very good vintage condition.
