EVERGREEN REVIEW #24 May 1962 FERLINGHETTI Louis Armstrong Henry Miller NICE!!!

Description: I have a very large collection of books spanning many topics. A massive gathering of Philip K Dick titles and editions, as well as fine press, signed limited editions, modern firsts, radical movement and conceptual art items. I encourage you to browse my store and categories for a wide range of unique, quality offerings. Condition: SEE IMAGES. This is a solid GOOD+ to VERY GOOD copy. No markings. Binding is square and solid, although the signature at page 30 is starting to pull. NOT LOOSE or anything. Some creasing. This is not a mint or pristine copy by any stretch, but for the age and what it IS, this is a specimen worthy of your shelf. Preserved in an acid-free archival bag About: This issue has poetry, writings, cartoon, photographs and illustrations throughout. The ads as well are great. The Jazz segment is an appreciation titled Louis Armstrong: Style Beyond Style. There is also an essay in here by Lawrence Ferlinghetti titled Lower California. This essay is multiple pages, and includes two Ferlinghetti illustrations. I've looked to find this essay referenced elsewhere with no luck. I'm assuming either published here first and later collected under a different title, OR this is a super rare piece. There is also an advance excerpt from City of Night by John Rechy, which was a debut writing published in 1963. Something of a Bible for the Counterculture, with its primary purpose as a literary publication, it also gave focus to the arts. The sexier and more counter to culture, the better. It faced and gave voice to many of the taboos around sex, sexuality, expression in various forms, and pushing the boundaries of what was socially acceptable. Founded by the publisher of Grove Press, this magazine debuted and provided early opportunity to such Beat poets and writers such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Charles Bukowski, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Albert Camus, LeRoi Jones, William S. Burroughs, Samuel Beckett, Pablo Neruda, Jean Genet, Valdimir Nabokov, Susan Sontag, Norman Mailer and many others. It included cartoons and illustrations, photographs, articles, interviews and even a recurring erotic comic titled The Adventures of Phoebe Zeit-Geist. Originally, publication halted in 1973 with issue 96, although it was revamped a couple of times, and even now is currently available as an on-line subscription. I will happily answer any further questions. Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and I've made offers myself on my own purchases. To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers. Best not to waste our time. With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer. If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings. I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases. I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
