Inside the back of the canvas is a small card with the biography of Schmidt. Eugene Schmidt (1919-2007) was born in Gladbeck, Westphalia, Germany after the end of World War I. He studied art in Germany before becoming a professional artist in Germany, Italy, Montreal, Canada and finally Santa Barbara, California where he remained for the last half of his life. He is known for painting architectural landmarks in Santa Barbara as well as European locations such as the painting I am offering for sale. His work is extremely detailed and close to be photorealist in style. According to Askart.com, one of his paintings is in the private collection of the Queen of England.
