Description: A pristine unmounted mint set of five stamps. Scott 268 - 272; SG 344 - 348 (Cat £27) According to Doig the original stamps were ordered in 1939 for charity stamps to support the Ethiopian Red Cross. Printed by photogravure by Courvoisier S. A., La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in sheets of 50 stamps (10 x 5). Perforated 11½. They were not issued in unoverprinted condition. The stamps arrived in Djibouti a few days after the occupation of Addis Abeba by the Italians. A portion was sold to philatelists in Djibouti where the balance was held until after the Liberation. After the Liberation the stamps were sent to Addis Ababa where they later received three overprints: Victory (1945), Red Cross Fund (1950-1951), and Red Cross Silver Jubilee (1960).
