Description: Luigi Rossini (1790-1857) was an Italian painter and copperplateetcher, best known for his etchings of ancient Roman architecture. His etchings include images of the Pantheon,the Coliseum, the Appian Way, the Temple of Peace, and the Golden House of Nero,et al. Born in Ravenna, Italy, hestudied art and architecture at the Academy of Bologna where he graduated in1813 as an architect and artist. Rossini is best known for etchings ofclassical Roman architecture including the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the AppianWay, the Temple of Peace, and the Golden House of Nero. Rossini was alsoinfluenced by more rural settings, and produced etchings of the landscapesurrounding Rome. His first series of views were published in 1814. He beganhis Roman antiquities series in 1819, completing 101 folio plates which werepublished in Rome in 1825. This imagewas probably produced in about 1819 (based on the image title).
