Winger and H.A. Havemann, and published by Blackie & Son Limited London and Glasgow. The book was originally published in 1939 in German as "Technische Dynamik" with a second edition (from which this edition was translated) in 1953. This book concentrates on several key structural mechanics and dynamics elements of steam turbines from the days prior to the availability of finite element analysis and digital computers. It provides the structural mechanics bases for turbine disk centrifugal stress, blade forced deflection and vibratory stresses, and rotor critical speeds. Included in a back pocket are three forms that came with the book. One is Table Ia. Calculation of stresses in a rotating disk, Table Ia again but filled out (as Table Ib) with what appears to be a sample calculation, and Table II Calculation of radial oscillations of a disc. Tables Ia and Ib are referred to in the method of calculation contained on page 16 with Table Ia being the worked example provided in the text for a specific disk profile. Note that the slide rule in the photo of the tables is not included. Table II is a blank version of the table used in the radial oscillations calculation on page 57. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The exterior is fair with the cover being somewhat dirty and worn. The book was retired from the library of the Worthington Steam Turbine Operation in Wellsville, NY (Dresser-Rand Steam Turbine at the time) back in the 1990s. Only one name appears on the library card. That is of one Mr. Gene Ashline.
