Description: The lock plate for the .57 Enfield Rifle excavated on the Five Forks Battlefield in Virginia. It is part of a collection found by Mr. Williams, the tag is his original. He started relic hunting in the 1950’s and like my father and I recorded the locations of where the relics were found. The Battle of Five Forks was fought on April 1, 1865, southwest of Petersburg, Virginia, around the road junction of Five Forks, Dinwiddie County, at the end of the Siege of Petersburg. The Union Army commanded by Major General Philip Sheridan defeated a Confederate force from the Army of Northern Virginia commanded by Major General George Pickett. The Union force inflicted over 1,000 casualties on the Confederates and took up to 4,000 prisoners while seizing Five Forks, the key to control of the South Side Railroad, a vital supply line and evacuation route. The artifact comes as shown with the original tag. The lock plate measures 5 ½”. It has been treated and sealed. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Write ups as pictures will also be included. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
