Description: #6 in Oz series. This is a wonderful reprint of this title by Books of Wonder. Apparently, and according to the flyleaf, the original printing in 1910 included a metallic green paint in the cover illustration and the color plates. Later printings excluded this color and reduced the number of color plates. This reprinting is faithful to what both Baum and Neill intended. Please look at pics for examples. The dustjacket is in Fine condition and protected in a removable mylar cover, it does have a faint crease on the inside flyleaf. The book is in Fine condition, the boards and spine look new with no wear or bumps to the corners, the pages are clean and unmarked. There are 16 color plates. The paper is heavy and smooth with large typeface. All the original b/w and color artwork by John R Neill has been replicated. The art alone is a good reason to have this book; they are so much fun to look at. I remember reading these books as a child and spending much time examining each picture to know the characters as well as I could. Baum intended this book to be his last Oz book so there is a charming 2-page explanation at the end to explain how and why he cannot write more Oz stories. The publisher has also added an Afterword to explain the genesis of this published copy.
