She was decomnmissioned in 2010 pending disposal. She was named for Rear Admiral Richard Ellington Hawes Admiral Hawes was awarded 2 Navy Crosses for Extraordinary Heroism. The Navy Cross is the second highest award for valor behind only the Congressional Medal of Honor.
