Description: ^ ELIA KAZAN ON THE WATERFRONT 1954 US Press Book MARLON BRANDO LEE J. COBBSize 12x16 inches. A large format twenty six (26) page Columbia Pictures Exhibitors Campaign Book On the Waterfront is a 1954 American crime drama film, directed by Elia Kazan and written by Budd Schulberg. It stars Marlon Brando, and features Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Steiger, Pat Henning , and Eva Marie Saint in her film debut. The musical score was composed by Leonard Bernstein. The black-and-white film was inspired by "Crime on the Waterfront" by Malcolm Johnson, a series of articles published in November–December 1948 in the New York Sun which won the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting, but the screenplay by Budd Schulberg is directly based on his own original story. The film focuses on union violence and corruption among longshoremen while detailing widespread corruption, extortion, and racketeering on the waterfronts of Hoboken, New Jersey. On the Waterfront was a critical and commercial success and is considered one of the greatest films ever made. It received twelve Academy Award nominations and won eight, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Brando, Best Supporting Actress for Saint, and Best Director for Kazan. In 1997, it was ranked by the American Film Institute as the eighth-greatest American movie of all time; in AFI's 2007 list, it was ranked 19th. It is Bernstein's only original film score not adapted from a stage production with songs. It should be noted that this PRESS BOOK is iconic - outstanding, a movie that won eight (8) Oscars at the 1955 Academy Awards. An overview of flaws - they are obvious when the eBay picture viewer is studied.Page 01 Cover - horizontal fold across the center of the press book. I dealt with collectors worldwide and wholesaled rarities to collector stores across Australia. I secured exclusive deals with film distributors and over the years was fortunate to have acquired many rare and unique items - my policy was to sell them on as fast as possible. I used the services of a professional photographer to record most for my archive knowing that many of the rarities once sold would never be seen again The momentum that I created was shut down when I was diagnosed with a serious illness. The result caused me to shut down the stores and abandon my drive to expand the business. I continued to sell slowly through eBay for some years. I moved interstate in 2017 and went into the corporate world expecting never to venture into the collectibles and memorabilia world again, particularly seeing that my serious illness had again reared its head. I had a shipping container of posters, which I ended up selling most to a Queensland dealer. He 'cherry-picked', so I was left largely with dross, although when I looked more closely I saw many hidden gems. Of course, I still had my transparencies and some surprisingly interesting items. My mission now is to clear everything and to be able to sit back and watch the world go by. This means lots of bargains to be had at the ozsell store.
