Description: Elgin Am Mfg Co Sterling Silver Cigarette Case; Up for sale is the sterling silver cigarette case made by Elgin American Mfg Co, dated early 20th century. The case in an Art Deco style is decorated with floral motifs all around at the inside and outside of the edges. The surfaces of the exterior and interior are designed with different geometric patterns, respectively. A monogram with the initials “SSH” is engraved in a lozenge diagram on the exterior. Inside the case is marked “Elgin Am. Mfg. Co.”, “Sterling Silver” and “Made in U.S.A.” on the spring hinge-operated clasp on one side, and “Sterling” on the other side, separately. The cigarette case may also be used as business card holder. Elgin American Manufacturing Company (EAM), established in 1989, was a subsidiary of the Illinois Watchcase Company. The main objective of the EAM was to make novelty and vanity items including lockets, cigarette cases, charms, pins, buttons and other articles. As a major manufacturer of compacts and vanity cases since the 1920’s, the demand for their products seemed, at the time, to have no end.
