Description: Eight (8) Freshly cut 7" to 9" long healthy stems (with diameter averaging 1/8" to 1/4") with viable buds. These tart cherries grow slower then sweet varieties, and thus the new growth stems are considerably thinner and shorter. I wait to cut them off the tree till the morning of mailing, then immediately carefully wrap them in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel around the cut ends. My little orchard is small enough that it is treated and protected with the utmost care; being retired I can devote considerable time. Pictures show a couple of the Montmorency Cherry trees I have, and their fruit. If you search "Rootstock and Scion" in Google, then select "images" there are many interesting methods of grafting. Besides rooting and stem grafting, interestingly people just graft single buds. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=bud+grafting. Personally, I've found (using some left over cuttings) simply putting them in a few inches of water for a week or two inside, the buds start to swell and green. I've then gently inserted some into rich soil, and always keep them wet (to prevent shocking the leaves with water loss). See this web page https://cleverbloom.com/root-plant-cuttings-water/ A kind eBayer who purchased cuttings, has provided a picture of setup (last two pictures). He indicated he cut those I sent in half. He states "I'm rooting them in temperature controlled incubators made from large storage tubs, 100 watt incandescent bulbs and a digital temperature controller."
