Description: You will receive 5 organically grown mature Catawissa Egyptian Walking Onions plus 10 topsets of assorted sizes from my Maine garden. The fourth picture is an onion that has been peeled to show what it looks like when it is ready to use for eating fresh or for cooking. Please plant your onions when you receive them and keep these well watered till rooted normally a couple of weeks. They will be root pruned and the tops will be cut back to place them in a semi dormant state for your success in planting. Please look at the pictures for an example of what you will receive and how they are trimmed. Plant them 3/4 to the top of the bulb leaving the tip exposed. Place them 5-6 inches apart. Press down on the top of the soil to remove any air pockets. Instead of flowers, these plants produces topsets, a cluster of bulblets,at the top of the stalk where the flowers and seeds would normally be. The stalks eventually flop over from the weight of the bulblets (if not harvested) and replant themselves, thus beginning their “walk” across the ground. Also called tree onions or topset onions, this vigorous and trouble-free plant is hardy in zones 3-9For a small investment over time you will have onions for years and years to come. We've been harvesting our onions nearly 50 years. Thank you.....
