Description: Economics as an Art of Thought by Peter Earl, S. FROWEN Estimated delivery 3-12 business days Format Hardcover Condition Brand New Description Scholars from around the world with a wide range of theoretical perspectives probe into themes of time and money, uncertainty and expectation and into the roots of Shackles philosophical and methodological stance. Publisher Description George Shackle, FBA (1903-1992) was one of the leading economic philosophers of the twentieth century, who made major contributions to the theory of choice under uncertainty, to economic method and the history of economic thought, and to monetary and macroeconomic theory. His work became legendary not only for the purity of its subjectivist thought but also for the literary quality of his numerous books and articles. As the chapters in this volume make clear, he has been a major influence to economists of the Austrian, behavioural and Post Keynesian schools of economics, as well as linking with aspects of institutionalist economics and hermeneutic method. The volume was originally conceived by Stephen Boehm, Stephen Frowen and Pheby as a ninetieth birthday present for Professor Shackle. Sadly, he died before reaching this age and initial versions of some of the chapters were presented at a conference to celebrate his life and work, held at Aldeburgh in 1992. Since Shackles death, interest in his work has continued to grow.Shackles extensive writings and correspondence have recently been made available, revealing not only how he worked and developed his ideas, but also the remarkable extent to which he was a man of letters. In bringing this volume to publication, Peter Earl and Stephen Frowen have sought where possible to ensure that the original chapters are placed in the context of the latest literature. They have also incorporated several brand new chapters that relate to his work on complexity theory and management accounting, and present a fascinating journey into the Shackle archive.
