Description: Early Utah artist Mohonri Young original signed pencil sketch. The sketch was done by the artist while attending New York Art Students League. Written in the lower portion on the right side in the artist’s hand is a note “Sketch Class Art Students League”. It is signed in the middle section to the right “Young” and is dated 1900. The signature style on this sketch is consistent with the way other sketches by him were signed during this period in his career. I have included in the photos screenshots from the book about Mahonri by Norma Davis. The book includes an early sketch by Mahonri also while at the art students league with same style signature. The sketch example in the book is in the BYU Museum collection. This sketch is 125 years old and is an early glimpse into the history of Mahonri, who would later become one of Utahs great artists. The image area minus matting is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Overall measurements with mat and frame 9 3/4 x 12 3/4 inches.
