Description: Early Tuck's Phototype Postcard Historic Houses 17 Fleet Street London England No. 2178, apparently from a series of Tuck images at the 17 Fleet Street address referenced by the same number. The building is one of only a few that survived the 1666 Great Fire of London. The Wax Works (Mrs. Salmon started it) in this building dates the image to about 1795-1812. The precise image does not match other images on the Internet of the same time period, which is curious. Caption of engraving is "Specimen of Antient (Ancient) Building, Flat Street." The image on the card seems to be a collotype, neither real photo or lithograph, but a photomechanical process using a real photo, and producing a print from that which approximates the original detail of the photo. In this case they would have used a photo of the engraving. Corner and edge wear as seen in photos. Corners and edges bumped, worn, missing material. No other creases or tears. Stray pencil mark at upper left corner margin. Address side lightly spotted. Combined International shipping can be arranged by contacting seller prior to purchase.
