Description: Early Staffordshire Madonna Sadness This stunning piece depicts Madonna and it is also known as "Sadness". It is quite large and heavy and the photo does not do this justice. Painted in wonderful pastel hues with black base and floral pattern to scarf. Incised Enoch Wood to base which dates it 1818-1845. One of these resides in the inventory of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Approx 15"H X 10"W. Documentation: Schkolne Staffordshire Figures Volume 4, p.247, fig 200.120. Condition: Crazing (some accentuated), paint loss, some "as made" firing cracks to base of neck area, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected with age. I will be listing a large Collection of Staffordshire, many pieces deaccessioned from a Museum so please continue watching. Terms of Sale Please review photos closely.
