Description: Pearlware Childs Beaker or Christening Cup MY SHEEP ~ PRETTY BIRD Staffordshire England c 1835 This is scarce child's beaker or christening cup 1830-40. The cup would have been used to sip juice or milk. It stands 2-1/2 inches tall and 2-1/2 inches. Transfer printed in a rich and earthy brick red brown against a creamy earthenware with a lustre rim. The cup features two images, one titled MY SHEEP and the other titled PRETTY BIRD. The cup would have been given as a reward of merit and a gift for a special occasion. It most likely was made in the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid-19th century. The cup is in fair to poor condition but displays well as is. A crack through the side and foot and a hairline descrnding from the rim. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Rim wear. Substantial glaze crazing which would likely come clean with a peroxide bath. Minor typical firing imperfections original to the making. The design is simple and striking. It will make a wonderful display and a welcome addition to any collection of children's early wares or collection of early childs’ mugs. Offered as is, as shown. Price reflects condition. Thank you for bidding!
