Description: Very interesting and early drinking horn, some research yields these horns were used in Russia and Georgia and still are today. This horn from what other say is Russian silver/ Neillo. Im not sure of that or not, to me the composition appears to be like German silver which is a mix of nickel and silver. Russian are also known for mixing metals to get a less pure version due to costs... I did not find a hallmark but this example is fairly detailed and of higher quality then others! It appears to have a duck head/ or dog head bill on the back of it! These were also very popular during soviet times for wine drinking. I can't tell you all that much about it without a doubt a great and early piece! Im guessing 1930s or 40s but it could be newer or older! The duck bill end appears to be of a higher purity and is more a sterling color then the other pieces. a great piece of Russian or Georgian history and a stunning well made piece of early silver, I did not see a hallmark but possibly missed it..... fresh from a Hudson valley NY estate! Thanks for looking, check out all my rare and interesting antiques and collectibles!
