Description: This very early 20th century French made violin was probably made by the Laberte Freres atelier in Mirecourt. Its a beautifully assembled instrument with strong gorgeous flaming in the back and sides. On the back it has etched the early 1910's date it was gifted to it's first owner and some initials. See photos for more cosmetic condition details. The instrument has served my sister well for many years and she says it is a joy to play, but due to a hand injury she cannot pursue playing the violin any longer. The violin comes fitted with the Pirastro silver wound gut and gut strings she last purchased for it some years ago, which we suggest you change for fresh strings of your liking prior to playing. Even with the gut strings, this violin has a really loud and clear sound. It has some scratches on the top and back that are typical with violins that have been well used. It has a nick on the scroll, but that doesn't affect the violin in any way but cosmetically. Any luthier should be able to easily repair it, if it really bothers you. There's a similar violin going for $2400 on ebay. Doing some research, the workshop of Laberte Humbert Freres was started in 1876 by luthier brothers Maurice-Emile and Pierre Alexis Auguste Laberte. They later employed respected luthiers, Joseph Aubry, Charles Brugere, Camille Poirson and Georges Apparut, to name a few, and they would sometimes use fictitious labels.Doing some research, the workshop of Laberte Humbert Freres was started in 1876 by luthier brothers Maurice-Emile and Pierre Alexis Auguste Laberte.
