Description: E. Phillips OppenheimENVOY EXTRA-ORDINARYP. F. Collier & Son Corporation (NY) (©1937) CONDITION: No jacket, but still VERY GOOD with minor shelfwear. No markings. {Me: This is not a first edition, because that was published by Little Brown & Co. Only the copyright date is included in the Collier version. Was it published the same year? I don’t know, do you?} This is another great novel by Edward Phillips Oppenheim, the prolific English novelist who was in his lifetime a major and successful writer of genre fiction including thrillers and spy novels, and who wrote over a 100 of them. He was the self-styled "Prince of Storytellers", generally regarded as the earliest writer of spy fiction as we know it today, and invented the 'Rogue Male' school of adventure thrillers. In this one, a young English noble wanders around while all European leaders hang on his every word … About the author:Edward Phillips Oppenheim was an English novelist, a prolific writer of best-selling genre fiction, featuring glamorous characters, international intrigue and fast action. Notably easy to read, they were viewed as popular entertainments. He was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1927. Commentaries on line: At the time this novel was written, German and Italy were already under the control of dictators (called Hellstern and Matorni in Oppenheim speak). How could Europe return to peace? That is the puzzle that Oppenheim addresses in this fantastical fiction which focuses on nobility instead of common sense. There are several well drawn minor characters in the novel. Henry Yates is the diminuitive, one-armed, ex-soldier, and secretary to Matresser. Also, an extended return of General Besserley, American Diplomat and head of the Secret Service, who is featured in two collections of short stories published about the same time. In light of actual events, it’s hard to read this book without a sad smile.Still, it’s a good story, and worth reading on its own merits. ______________________ {I'll always combine shipping costs and refund any excess shipping charges for multiple-copy book orders.}For all "buy it now" items, please use ADD TO CART if you plan to order more than one item at the same time.______________ WOW!
