Description: If you've never looked through a vintage Leitz (now LEICA) bino before you are in for a real treat once you buy this beauty and put them up to your own orbs. I promise you will not be able to stop your mouth from smiling! We own and cherish both this large, but fairly lightweight, model that can easily be lugged around. As well as the equally excellent 8x,30 Binuxit. And just like this set, our own binos have shed most, if not all, of its black pebble grained vinyl covering. A well known, long commented upon, defect of these otherwise superbly produced optics. We operate our own binos sans vinyl or paint on bare metal surfaces. One could easily paint or re-vinyl this set, if desired. Sheets of vinyl cost little on the Internet, but the technique of applying it may stump some. Which is why one shop charges $200+ to do the job. Painting is far easier and easily spiffs up a fantastic set. Their overall look belies the truly superb views that are clear and crisp from scratch free lenses! We often remove the cups for slightly wider vistas. And they are perfectly aligned in this one since we didn't have to open them to clean off haze causing film that typically infects the overwhelming majority of vintage binoculars. We worked on and repaired the impressive brown case that first caught our well trained eyes and made our heart skip a beat upon spying it on a shelf at the consignment store. Hoping it was the 10x,60 version we've been pining for, we weren't too disappointed to find another 12X with a slightly higher serial number than the one already in our ever evolving Collection. And they are in nearly exactly the same shape both optically as well as cosmetically, if not slightly better. Since this set's right upper side has its vinyl covering. So 1/4 complete, bino wise. Whereas our set has shed some of its own on the inner upper right side with all the rest long ago flaked or chipped off. You won't believe how light they are for their truly impressive size! A full pound less than an equally well made B&L Mk-28 7x,50! See pics for comparison. Of course their reach is quite a bit more and the 12x,60 Leitz is one of our most used binos during the warmer weather when the elusive Blue Herons are back and about. If you wish to spy objects across a pond, river or lake then here ya go! Nothing better, IMO. They carry well and with a bit of practice can be held almost as steady as a 7x50. Satisfaction or request a return and cheerful refund within three days of receipt, please. If you like to read serious books, then please give THE CULTURE of CRITIQUE, by Prof. Kevin MacDonald, a whirl. Once into it you will be hooked, stunned, and your weltenschuang may never again be the same! Get a used copy of the expanded soft cover version here on eBay. And it is the third in a trilogy on the subject from the perspective of evolutionary psychology. My dear wife bought me all three in hard cover at $75 each about 25+ years ago and they were worth every penny. His first two books are almost as good as the final one that has to be considered Prof. MacDonald's magnum opus, his masterpiece, his crowning achievement. I kid you not. It is The Best Book written in the past 50 years. And also makes a superb gift this truly happy Holiday Season. We were all given the best gift on Nov. 5th.
