Description: Warren, Arkansas is home to one of the most northerly and inland Sabal minor ecotypes. This variety often has a powdery blue hue and can be found in flood plains in habitat. In cultivation it is slightly more vigorous than the nearby McCurtain County, Oklahoma variety. In zone 7 expect a height of 2.5 to 4 feet. In warmer zones where the frost free season is longer expect a height of six feet in ten years. They can be grown in clay, loam, and organic sandy soils. Cold hardiness for established larger palms is -4F. In habitat they have been to -10F. Most likely they partially or fully defoliated, but easily regrew their canopy. What you are buying is a well rooted seedling, grown in a two gallon pot, similar to the seedling in the first photo. Seed was selected from our 18 years old plants in zone 7b. All have been growing under full sun conditions. The second photo is the dwarf palmetto in habitat near Warren. We ship on Mondays and Tuesdays following payment. No international orders please.
