Description: STAN LAUREL was born Arthur Stanley Jefferson on 16 June 1890 in England and he died on 23 February 1965 OLIVER HARDY was born Norvell Hardy on 18 January 1892 in Georgia and he died on 7 August 1957. Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were in their time the world's most popular comedy duo and from 1928 made many successful films together, the bulk of them being comedy shorts. Although their earlier films were silent, with the advent of sound the comedy duo converted to this medium and developed a highly unique style of comedy, later imitated by others. Laurel and Hardy are today considered to be two of the greatest film comedians of the twentieth century. Laurel and Hardy's partnership at the Hal Roach studio began in 1926. Within a year of their first joint appearance, they were being referred to as the new comedy team.
