She was also a writer - and also looking for a change. In 1980, he advertised for a 'wife' to spend a year on an isolated tropical island - a modern-day Robinson Crusoe, but this time with a mate. Castaway tells their story in film - two British adventurers who spent a year on Tuin Island in the Torres Strait, off the north coast of Australia. The real-life adventurers in this story nearly perished from hunger and disease but were finally saved by islanders from nearby Badu Island. Despite the hardships, or perhaps because of them, they persevered. Gerald Kingsland and Lucy Irvine wrote separate accounts of their adventure on Tuin Island. Irvine's Castaway was published in 1983 and is the basis for this remarkable film by award winning British director Nicolas Roeg. Per the label, the film has 116 minute running time and is presented in widescreen format; with English audio, no subtitles. This movie-on-demand MOD archive title on recorded media is new and factory sealed. The DVD disc is Region 1, NTSC format, specifically designed to play on DVD players in North America.
