The Dragon Ladies Hui was formed in 1992 when the "pog" craze hit Hawaii and everyone would line up at stores and pop ups to purchase these little waxed treasures for their collection. Because of the craze, "pogs" were made with different manufacturing methods but the original were those made by Stanpac in New York. The minimum order was 10 tubes of 500 milk caps, shipped to dealers who broke the order down to single milk caps, with the average selling price of 25ยข each. My classmates and I formed the Dragon Ladies Hui (we were all born in 1952) and invested in this craze and paid an artist to design these 2 color (red and black) pogs with a geisha revealing a dragon tattoo on her back and the years surrounding her of dragon years of birth, starting with 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, and ending with 2000. Currently, this year, 2024 is a dragon year. Dragon years are very auspicious and special. Unfortunately for me, the pog craze began to nose dive and as a dealer, I had a lot of unsold inventory. The Dragon Ladies Hui was no more, though these pogs are still pretty cool, imho. They were originally reintroduced to Hawaii's children as a game - stacking pogs up and taking turns slamming a pog down on the pile - with the winner taking whatever falls to the side. I have a stash of the magazine, "The Milk Cover Collector" with monthly issues to keep collectors informed of the latest pogs, date of issues, and other pertinant info such as color variations, etc. These designer bottle caps are a perfect addition to any dairy or advertising-themed collection. The original and unique design is sure to impress any collector or enthusiast. They can be used as party favors at a birthday event or as little giveaways to those born in the year of the dragon. Because these have been stored in its tube for over 30 years, there are discolorations as well as rust from the staples. However, they are still really cool.
