Description: About the item: Syndicated by the Toronto Star Syndicate and appearing from 1972 to 1976, Wee Whimsy cartoons featured artist Doug Sneyd's rendition of a child with his or her humorous misquote. The original artwork was sent to the child whose parent provided their quote to the paper. After completing The Art of Doug Sneyd (published by Dark Horse in 2011), Mr. Sneyd considered revisiting the humor and beautiful logic of the WeeWhimsey children with a new book he would title Out of the Mouths of Babes. With the success of The Art of Doug Sneyd, however, Mr. Sneyd spent much of his time on commissions and exhibiting at conventions. So the idea for Out of the Mouths of Babes was permanently shelved. However, the artist initially created a few watercolor originals for the project. This set of five pieces of original artwork and on xerox copy of the cover concept for the book feature a little boy advising that "only the thumbs of my feet need trimming." Scan one shows everything buyer receives and the rest show the same items but in greater detail. The concept pieces measure approximately, in order of their appearance in scan one (beginning from top left and proceeding on), 4 by 6 inches, 4 1/3 by 6 inches (this one has a stat taped on covering the original drawing of the boys face, but it can be lifted to see the original below), 7 by 10 inches, 4 3/4 by 6, and 5 by 7 inches. The last piece is a xerox copy of the cover concept for the book and it measure 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Buyer receives all five sketches shown as well as the single xerox copy of the cover concept for the book. About Doug Sneyd: Doug Sneyd began his career in commercial illustration before going freelance to work for a variety of book and magazine publishers. He also illustrated single-panel cartoons for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest circulation newspaper (cartoons that were eventually syndicated throughout North America). In 1964, he began working for Playboy and his gag strips have appeared in the magazine ever since. Throughout his career, he has contributed over 500 cartoons in all and became a favorite artist of Playboy readers.
