Description: About the item: Syndicated by the Toronto Star Syndicate and appearing from 1972 to 1976, Wee Whimsy cartoons featured artist Doug Sneyd's rendition of a child with his or her humorous misquote. The original artwork was sent to the child whose parent provided their quote to the paper. After completing The Art of Doug Sneyd (published by Dark Horse in 2011), Mr. Sneyd considered revisiting the humor and beautiful logic of the WeeWhimsey children with a new book he would title Out of the Mouths of Babes. With the success of The Art of Doug Sneyd, however, Mr. Sneyd spent much of his time on commissions and exhibiting at conventions. So the idea for Out of the Mouths of Babes was permanently shelved. However, the artist initially created a few watercolor originals for the project. This single preliminary piece (with artwork on both its front and reverse side) features one complete concept on one side ("Can grandma take out her tongue, too?") and preliminary roughs on the other. The concept piece measures approximately 4 1/4 by 6 inches (scan 2 and 3, front and reverse) and scans 4 features a xerox copy of the cover concept for the book and it measures 8 1/2 by 11 inches. The first image shows the front and back of the artwork and the xerox cover concept. Each piece is in excellent condition and they will be shipped with the utmost care. Buyer receives both pieces shown- the single piece of artwork (with drawings on both the front and back) and one xerox copy of the cover concept for the book. About Doug Sneyd: Doug Sneyd began his career in commercial illustration before going freelance to work for a variety of book and magazine publishers. He also illustrated single-panel cartoons for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest circulation newspaper (cartoons that were eventually syndicated throughout North America). In 1964, he began working for Playboy and his gag strips have appeared in the magazine ever since. Throughout his career, he has contributed over 500 cartoons in all and became a favorite artist of Playboy readers.
