This mixture is then folded multiple times to remove impurities, creating many hundreds of individual steel layers, finally producing arguably the best sword & knife-making steel available, a technique renowned for smithing blades from both the oriental and middle-eastern regions of the world. With this folded steel, the blade is then forged into an 8-sided octahedral blade shape, which is both aesthetically distinctive and on a more practical level, significantly strengthens the overall blade's structure.
