Description: This is an authentic and rarely seen beret flash and parachute background oval of the Joint Special Operations Agency. This flash and oval was worn by the members of JSOA at The Department of Defense (DOD) during the Desert Storm time frame. I am not sure if they are still authorized or being worn. This flash has a rolled border with a plastic backing. The oval also has a plastic back. The patch is approx 2 inches in height and 1 3/4 inches wide. The background color is purple (for Joint Services) with red white and blue bends (diagonals) and it has a white merrowed border. This flash was authorized for wear on 31 October 1991 according to ASMIC publication dated Jan-March 1992 Volume 51, No 2 page 36. There were only 12 personnel at that time in the J-8 Joint Special Operations Agency. These personnel were from US Army Special Forces, Air Force Special Operations, Navy SEALs and USMC MEU-SOC. The colors represent all services working together for the USA. I have no current information on this insignia, but it was obtained directly by me from a member of JSOA in early 1992. This flash is listed as item #18 on plate 84 of the fine reference book on US Army Patches, Flashes and Ovals by Barry Jason Stein. The photo of the coin is shown for reference only.
