Description: This is a rare playbill from the Off-Broadway revival of the TOM EYEN play "WOMEN BEHIND BARS" at New York's Truck and Warehouse Theatre. (The Original Off-Broadway production opened May 1st, 1975 at the Astor Place Theatre in New York City and closed after 54 performances. The revival opened April 20th, 1976 and ran for 324 performances.) A camp spoof of the 1950's exploitation films produced by Universal, Warner's and Republic Pictures, the black comedy is set in the Women's House of Detention in Greenwich Village. Among the range of social and psychological types imprisoned within its walls are an innocent young woman (framed by her husband on a charge of armed robbery), who is brutalized, betrayed and sexually assaulted throughout her eight years of incarceration, a chain-smoking, gum-snapping street-wise tough girl, and a delicate Southern belle reminiscent of Tennessee Williams' "Blanche DuBois". Lording over all is the sadistic matron and her tough-as-nails sidekick.
