Description: SHELL DESCRIPTION FAMILY: Fasciolariidae BINOMIAL NAME: Fusinus Colus COMMON NAME(S): Distaff / Long-Tailed Spindle / Distaff Colus LOCATION(S) FOUND: Indian Ocean / Central Pacific DESCRIPTION CITATION: Linnaeus, 1758 EX COLLECTION: Lee & Leveta Hodges SPECIMEN SIZE: 4.25 x 1.25 in. approx. / ~ 106 mm SPECIMEN NUMBER: SBA10203007 DESCRIPTION: Beautiful white ridged structure with pronounced brown lines perpendicular to the ridges, more visible than in other examples, spirals terminating at one end, extending downward to the opening and lower extremities. Includes original collector's notes on identification. CONDITION: Tail appears to end abruptly, but I can't determine if that's due to breakage or natural processes. Comparing with other examples, it appears to be natural. Otherwise pleasant to the touch with no observed damage. An attractive example. LISTING NOTE: This shell was either originally purchased from legal dealers, or legally collected in or before the 1980s, prior to the enactment of protection rules, based upon internal evidence in the collection. To the best of our knowledge, no infringement of local protection rules has been committed.
