Description: Disneyland Walt Disney 1956 Saturday Evening Post Article Diane Disney Miller Vintage Walt Disney History from Saturday's Toys presents... the second in an eight part serial of "The Walt Disney Story" by Diane Disney Miller (published in 1957). Released as a featured serial of articles through Saturday Evening Post... this one published on Thanksgiving Weekend... November 24, 1956. The pre-publication release of Walt Disney's first authorized biography... by Walt's daughter, Diane Disney Miller... as told to author Pete Martin. With these rarely seen photographs... Walt is seen in his element... providing a drink to his first grandson (of course it's in a Disneyland paper cup!). In addition, Ron and Diane Miller (again, with Christopher) are pictured on the Disneyland Skyway above Fantasyland... with Walt and Lilly following in the next skyway bucket. The article also features several historic photographs of Walt in his teen and young adult years in Kansas City. Six full pages; 10.25" x 13.75"; neatly removed from the magazine and placed within protective sleeves for long-term preservation. Features three double-sided pages from the magazine; 6 pages total. This particular article is significant in that several photographs were included as Walt and his family visited Disneyland on an overcast fall morning in 1956. Walt, his wife, Lillian, daughter Sharon Disney, and eldest daughter Diane Disney Miller with her husband Ron Miller and their first-born son, Christopher Miller. Notably, the photo session that morning would include the immortal image known as "Footsteps" while Walt walked through the courtyard entrance to Sleeping Beauty Castle and Fantasyland. While the image was later credited to Disneyland photographer Renie Bardeau, in reality, the photo was captured at least three years prior to Bardeau's known "start date" in the dark room as his first assignments primarily involved developing black and white photographs at Disneyland. As such, that 1956 image was more likely captured by Disneyland's chief photographer at that time, Charlie Nichols. Unfortunately, Disneyland's talented photographers rarely received credit for their work... as remains true today. The article is titled "Hard Times in Kansas City" and covers Walt's early efforts in animation... and his move to Hollywood in 1923... 100 years ago.
