Description: Disneyland Line Plaza Inn Bakery Hotel DLH Monorail Cafe 1990 Al Bundy Toad Hall Historic Disneyland Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... the weekly Disneyland Line newsletter for employees / cast members of the Disneyland Resort. Volume 22, No. 15 / April 13, 1990. The issue pays tribute to the little known gem located backstage (within the Plaza Inn complex)... known as the Disneyland Bakery. While the park initially had a bakery on Main Street (Puffin Bakery) when it opened in 1955, that shop did not provide the daily bakery requirements of the park's food service locations. All breads, cakes, desserts and cookies were ordered from outside vendors. However, when the Red Wagon Inn was redesigned and repurposed in 1965 as "The Plaza Inn"... a new full service bakery was installed at that time. Also features an "Al Bundy" look alike contest... to see which Disneyland cast member matches the look of Ed O'Neill as Al Bundy (later portraying Jay Pritchett on "Modern Family") Twenty-five years later, the efforts of the Bakery had expanded to include up to 25 employees... several of which are pictured, including: Jurgen Kluwe, Fatima Gavina, Karin Mears, Masako Nakamura, Gina Stewart, Manny Duran, George Geary and Mark Evans. The cover features carts filled with chocolate cakes, cheesecakes, cherry tortes and cookies. Issue notes retirement of Virginia Firey, cashier at the Monorail Cafe at the Disneyland Hotel. Back cover notes the availability of lithos featuring "Mr. Toad as Blue Boy and Pinkie in Toad Hall." The pair sold in a limited edition (believed to be 300) and was available as a pair for $65; signed by artist Phil Dagort. The artist later served as an art director and production designer; currently operating his own design firm, Ariodante Productions, encompassing all aspects of his design interests. 8.5" x 11"; 8 pages About Us Combined Shipping Available Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe. Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!" We are glad to combine shipping for multiple purchases in order to reduce costs whenever possible. Simply let us know before processing payment for the items selected and we'll be glad to revise and forward a final invoice to reflect the combined shipping price. This usually works most effectively when combining flat paper items (postcards, newsletters, ephemera, etc.) but we'll do our best to make any combined purchase provide your best value for shipping.
