Eastern Airlines, one of the four major domestic airlines from 1926 to 1991, was led by World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker in its early years. The L-1049 Super Connie entered commercial service with Eastern Airlines in December 1951, flying from Miami to New York. The last L-1049 flight in the US was also conducted by Eastern Airlines in February 1968, marking the end of an era.
