Description: Deneen Pottery Mug, Renaissance 1995, King Henry VIII, Purple with Burgundy Drip King Henry VIII is his portly, jovial self on this beautiful, handmade Deneen Pottery mug. The glaze is a deep purple which, I believe, is the glaze the Deneen Pottery calls "midnight withburgundy white" drip glaze. The shape is Deneen Pottery's Round Belly Mug, and it feels very comfortable in the hand. On the front is a beautifully engraved navy and ivory medallion with a very detailed Henry VIII portrait and the text, "Renaissance 1995." The mug is hand crafted from red clay. The Deneen stamp is impressed on the bottom. The mug measures about 4" tall and just under 3" in diameter at the top. The capacity is 10 ounces filled to the brim. The mug is in excellent pre-owned but unused condition with no chips, crack, or stains, and very minor shelf wear on the unglazed bottom. Any irregularities in shape or glaze would be from the hand made process. Please see the photos to judge the quality and condition of this piece. Unless specifically listed as New, all of my items are pre-owned, vintage, or antique. They may show signs of use appropriate for their age and purpose. I make every effort to accurately describe the items and any flaws. Please ask all questions before purchase as I do not accept returns. Information from online research: Deneen Pottery's website describes their company as a second generation family business established in 1972 by Peter and Mary Deneen in St. Paul, Minnesota. All Deneen pottery is hand thrown and wheel turned, one by one, and is lead free. Their special "signature" medallion engraving technique was introduced in 1985 and is called "Glaze Engraving." They reverse artwork in plaster molds and then pack clay into the mold resulting in flat pieces of clay artwork that are applied to mugs. Deneen Pottery mugs are dishwasher and freezer safe, microwave safe when half full, and durable. Today, Deneen Pottery produces custom, handmade pottery mugs for large and small organizations, including the US National Park Service, Death Wish Coffee, and many others.
