I am listing many many wonderful Norwegian "festdrakter" or bunads - folk costumes. With few exceptions they are all different! Quite a sight. The BUNAD for adults has strict ethnic rules as to how it must look and what silver is to be worn to be "Correct". As these costumes are 100% hand embroidered and sewn together, they usually cost from $1500-$3000, silver NOT included....they are made with deep hems and wide seams so they can be taken in and let out as needed, and when passed on from one generation to another. My mother`s Bunad went to my wife and now our daughter is wearing it. Each valley has its own bunad which is recognizable to others. Usually a young person does not own an adult bunad before he or she is confirmed at the age of 15...because of the fact they are still growing and the expense....so they have a FESTDRAKT / BUNAD. Many adults have chosen to do the saame and for the same reasons.
